ESL Student Council

Teacher Lisa Dolehide presented a workshop on ESL Student Councils at the State CCAE Conference in Sacramento April 19th and 20th, 2013.  Here is her handout:

Goals of Student Government

• Give input about programs and policies

• Plan special events or projects

• Fundraise for student activities/program

• Give the student body a "voice"
• Promote culture of shared leadership

• Create authentic learner leadership opportunities

• Model democratic practices

• Create/strengthen community relationships

Who: Officers – President, VP, Secretary. All serve a one-year term.

Representatives – two from every classroom

Staff Advisor


What: Discussion of school issues

Votes on money management

Event planning

When: Monthly meetings, morning and evening

• Deepen students’ commitment to education
